Welcome to the HP-Novell Strategic Relationship Hotline.
On December 10th, 1991, HP and Novell announced a strategic
relationship to deliver enterprisewide networking solutions. In
addition, HP and Novell announced seven joint projects. This hotline
provides valuable information on what was announced, including
positioning and commonly asked Q&As.
The hotline is organized as follows:
1. Executive Summary
2. Press Announcement
3. Project Fact Sheet
4. Q&As
5. LanManager Positioning
6. NetWare/9000 Information
7. Worldwide Support Information
8. Slides
How to use:
===========
Each of the above areas are in their own package. Start by first
reading the executive summary. This will give you a quick idea of what
was announced. The Press announcement and Project Fact sheet will give
you the details of the announcement. It is important to realize that a
big part of this announcement was the relationship between HP and
Novell, which was the culmination of dozens of joint projects initiated
by the companies over the past several years. History of past projects
can be found in the fact sheet. This historical data helps
differentiate us from IBM. HP has a long history of working with
Novell.
After reading the press announcement and fact sheet, you will have
additional questions. Some of these projects are in the early stages
and we therefore don't have all of the product details (i.e.
availability and price). The Q&As should then be read, and are broken
into subgroups to help you focus on the areas of most concern. You
will find detail information on PA-RISC, Distribution and Support
announcements. There are also Q&As on the competition and Microsoft
positioning.
Many of your customers will be concerned over how this announcement
effects HP's relationship with Microsoft and HP's installed base of Lan
Manager customers. The short answer is that it does not effect them at
all. The package on LanManager positioning goes into additional detail
on our relationship.
Currently Netware on the HP 9000 is provided by Innovus in the U.S. and
Asia/Pacific, and by HP in Europe. In the 1st quarter of 1992, HP will
sell and market worldwide NetWare for the HP 9000. There will be no
effect to the installed base of Innovus customers. The Netware/9000
package gives additional information on what this means for your
customers.
The last information package contains details on the Worldwide Customer
Service and Support announcement.
Lastly, this hotline contains three drawgallery slides that highlights:
1) the relationship between HP and Novell, 2) PA-RISC announcement and
3) Distribution announcement.
